There are four entrances to get to Mount Rainier, and they are: You can get up there in a regular car but take your time. The road is a mess, so a 4×4 is probably best. The only area that is a little crazy is the Carbon River Area. When it comes to the roads, most of them are pretty good to use any car. I have seen some gas stations with outrageous prices near the park. There are no gas stations inside the national park but in neighboring towns. It features a restaurant, fireplace, and little outdoor yurts.It is next to the best trail in the national park: Skyline Trail. Mount Rainier Map: A map is essential so you don’t get lost.Bear Spray: I always carry bear spray with me, just in case.Crampons: If you are hiking outside of the summer months, I highly recommend always having this in your backpack.Trekking Poles: I recommend these for people with bad knees like me.Headlamp: A headlamp is an absolute must in case you get lost, or you take longer than you thought you would to complete a hike. The Sony A6000 is an excellent camera for people that want to start improving at travel photography.Snacks: The best snacks are jerky, nuts, energy bars, and extra food.Sunglasses: It can get sunny, so make sure to pack some sunglasses.The Great thing about this reservoir is that it doesn’t have the plastic taste. Water Reservoir: You probably need more water than a water bottles worth.I have had a few cheap water bottles break on me before. They are on the heavier side, but I know for a fact they will not break. Bring some good bug spray.April-June: This is when there are no crowds, but you need to check conditions.You can ski, snowshoe, and snowboard! Please note that the Nisqually Entrance, in the southwest corner of the park, and the Carbon River Entrance are the only entrances open. But that doesn’t mean the park is closed. November-March: There is a ton of snow around this time of year.But be wary as there might be snow which can be dangerous. September-October: This a great time to avoid the crowds and see the bright fall colors.Please note that this is the most popular time to visit, which means more crowds. The wildflowers burst into action and paint the landscape with many extraordinary colors. July-August: Hiking Mt Rainier in July is the absolute best time to visit.Paradise is higher in elevation (5400ft), but it is the most popular section in the park.
